It has been five years since the last time a crowd has heard ‘Only Shallow’ live. On April 24, Dublin-based shoegaze, experimental pop rock band My Bloody Valentine announced their 2018 US Tour. This seven-date show will run from July 17 to August 1, starting at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, Washington and ending at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Tickets for this tour go on sale at 10 a.m. PTD on April 27th, apart from the New York show, which will be on sale at 11 a.m. ET on the same day.
My Bloody Valentine refresher course.
My Bloody Valentine was formed in 1983 by founding vocalist and guitarist Kevin Shields, and drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig. Vocalist and guitarist, Bilinda Butcher, and bassist Debbie Googe joined a few years later. The Irish group became popular for their heavily synthesized melodies, ethereal vocals, and unpredictable guitar distortion. Their unique spin on pop music allowed them to stray away from many other artists, especially the rock styles of the time, furthermore, this spin allowed the dream pop group construct themselves wholly based on originality.
The last official album that My Bloody Valentine had put out was back in 1991, just before their split in 1997. In 2008 the group reformed for a worldwide tour. They went on to keep their fans waiting for more. Five years later, the iconic group resurfaced once again with the release of their album “m v b” and as a result, crashed the site due to its high volume traffic. Vinyl remasters of their acclaimed 1988 “Isn’t Anything?” and 1991 “Loveless” LPs were also released in 2017. With the launch of this new tour, it seems like the possibility of a fourth album is on the horizon.
