Babymetal Drops New Single Amidst Yuimetal’s Absence

On 7 May, Babymetal dropped their new single ‘Distortion’. This comes a few days after the announcement of their new label, BABYMETAL Records. Fans in attendance for the first show of their US tour got to hear the brand new single.

The song begins with fast and heavy guitar riffs and a racing drum beat. Short bursts of strums ripple through the track and electrify the instrumentals. The intensity builds as deep shadowy voices bellow out “give up, give up!” and are retorted by synthesized vocals calling out to “stop the power” and questioning if it’s all just a “bad dream”. The chorus explodes with a mix of heavy synths, rocketing drum beats, and lightening guitar riffs. The verse swings back briefly until powering back into the chorus. The only time the beat truly slows down is as it skids to a complete stop at the very end.

The music video accompanying the song displays a post-apocalyptic city in ruins. A rock demon has formed over the demolished area and a battle ensues. All the elemental signs and supernatural figures converge to defeat the creature and look upon the fiery embers of the burning city, only to be illuminated by a ring of fire in the sky.

In the wake of these exciting announcements, rumors have been circulating about the absence of Yui Mizuno, also referred to as “Yuimetal” by her fans. Suzuka “Su-metal” Nakamoto and “Moametal” Kikuchi kicked off the US tour without the third member of their kawaii death metal band. There has been no word from the members of Babymetal or their management at Amuse talent agency.
