In some tragic news, American rapper Lil Peep has died at age 21 on Wednesday night, November 15, 2017 in Tuscon, Arizona.
News originally broke via Peep’s manager Chase Ortega, who tweeted, “I’ve been expecting this call for a year. Mother fuck”. His death was then confirmed through Sarah Stennett of First Access Entertainment, who stated, “I do not believe Peep wanted to die. He had big goals and dreams for the future which he had shared with me, his team, his family and his friends”
There has been mass outpouring of condolences and sadness over the news of his death across social media, highlighting the impact celebrity deaths have on fans around the globe.
Lil Peep’s real name was Gustav Ahr, and was born November 1, 1996. The name Lil Peep came from his mother, with Peep explaining, “My mom has been calling me Peep my whole life… That’s how I got the name“.
Showing in interest in music and fashion from a young age, Lil Peep cited My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday as early favourites of his. A facination of the emo scene led him to Los Angeles at age 17, where he joined with collecting Gothboiclique and blazed a trail by blending emo and rap.
According to the Pima County Medical Examiner, Lil Peep’s death could be due to an overdose. However, it will be six to eight weeks until official toxicology results can confirm this report.
