Mike Shinoda, lead vocalist of alt-rock juggernaut Linkin Park

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda Releases New Single ‘About You’.

By

It has already been nine months since Chester Bennington, former lead singer and founding member of Linkin Park, took his own life. The news hit fans like a truck. Bennington had been battling depression, but just 36 hours prior to his death, fans were watching a video of Chester spending time with his wife and kids. The news was especially painful for longtime friend and Linkin Park co-founder Mike Shinoda. The two had been working together since 1996 when the band came to be.

The healing process is a long one, but despite the nagging sadness that comes with the passing of a legend such as Chester, Shinoda has battled on and is set to release his first solo album this June. We can expect the full release on the 15th.

Mike Shinoda’s ‘About You’ gets a Music Video

Shinoda opened up about the lyrics on the album to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. The 41 year old Agoura Hills native insists that the songs on the album are not all intended to be about Chester. However, he acknowledges that many people are going to look at it in that light. It’s not a bad thing, though. Nobody wants to forget Chester Bennington, and we’re certain that Shinoda will be happy to help immortalize his longtime friend with an album that stirs up all the right emotions. Remember, it’s OK to cry.

I was like, man even when I try and make a song that’s not about him, it still feels like it’s about him.

The song also features American hip-hop artist Blackbear, and offers a different kind of depth to the track.

The video was self-directed by the Linkin Park vocalist and features the beautiful Shanghai skyline as the backdrop.
