It seems that two members of Soundgarden are set to reunite for the first time since the untimely death of frontman Chris Cornell. Passing away at age 52, Cornell’s death was ruled a suicide; a tragic and heartbreaking event that fans and music enthusiasts around the world collectively mourned.
So, what’s this about a reunion?
The reunion show in question is Denmark’s upcoming Northside Festival on the 8th of June, as part of a rock supergroup who will pay tribute to MC5’s “Kick Out The Jams” album. The members of Soundgarden set to appear are drummer Matt Cameron, who also drums for Pearl Jam, and guitarist Kim Thayil. The supergroup will also include MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, Don Was and Zen Guerrilla‘s Marcus Durant.
This event will mark the first time Cameron and Thayil have performed together since Cornell’s death.
A final parting gift.
Fans of Soundgarden received a bittersweet present in February in the form of an unreleased track by Cornell: ‘You Never Knew My Mind’. The song features original music Cornell, while the words are pulled from a newly discovered poem of Johnny Cash. Check it out below.
