Hail The Sun releases surprise EP, “Secret Wars”

Out of the blue, Californian quartet Hail The Sun have dropped their brand new 5-track EP, “Secret Wars”. The announcement arose only 2 days before the release alongside pre-order bundles, a music video and the accompanying lead single ‘1109’. “Secret Wars” is the second EP and marks their second release with Equal Vision Records. The progressive, genre-blending style Hail The Sun creates is a messy, complicated algorithm of sounds. Somehow, the four of them go above and beyond with each release.

Being dropped into the chaos straight away with ‘Repellent’ sets the bar for what’s to come across the other four tracks. ‘1109’, being the lead single, addresses old memories and emotions from vocalist and drummer Donovan Melero over a catchy chorus, beautifully paired guitars and fast, technical drum patterns. From the totally barbaric sections of ‘Repellent’ to the ear pleasing melodies of ‘Bound’, “Secret Wars” rounds itself out quite nicely and truly shows the dynamic ranges the outfit is capable of composing. Mix-wise, nothing is too loud or too quiet, Shane Gann and Aric Garcia do a great job at accenting each other with underlining bass parts from John Stirrat. Title track ‘Secret Wars’ ends the 5-track smoothly with a soft section, build up and huge final chorus.

2009 saw the formation of Hail The Sun and the band had their debut album, “POW! Right in the Kisser!” written, recorded and released independently a year later. Their first EP “Elephantitis” was released in 2012 following many tours, before signing to Blue Swan Records and releasing sophomore album “Wake” in 2014. In the following years, Hail The Sun shifted from Blue Swan Records to Equal Vision Records, which saw the release of their critically acclaimed album “Culture Scars”.

Currently on tour with I The Mighty and Good Tiger, the coming months leading up to the new year are staying busy with a UK tour in support of Silverstein‘s “Dead Reflection” album cycle.
